On Monday, March 23 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a “stay at home, stay safe” executive order that went into effect at 12:01am on Tuesday, March 24 2020. This executive order will be in place for at least three weeks and is an important measure to keep not only the state of Michigan, but the country safe as well.
Critical services such as grocery stores, pharmacies, doctors and veterinary offices will remain open and you are still allowed to go outside for physical activity, as long as you keep the CDC recommended distance away from others. Schools will remain closed until at least April 13.
The spread of COVID-19 is rapid; it’s only increasing. As a community, we need to work together to flatten the curve. Staying inside and keeping your distance is imperative, as well as washing your hands and disinfecting home and electronic surfaces often. It’s also suggested to disinfect other surfaces such as delivery containers and boxes, groceries that come in boxes or cans and even the bottoms of your shoes as the virus can stay on certain surfaces longer than others.
Also as a community, we need to work together to stay positive and keep a sense of normalcy to get through this tough time. Continue to call or video chat with friends and loved ones. Continue to take your pets on walks outdoors. Continue supporting your local economy by purchasing take-out meals or gift cards from restaurants and businesses. Continue to spread love and light, as it can spread just as fast at coronavirus. We all need positivity right now.
